Course Description:

When Orthodontics Meets Oral Surgery: Practical Updates in Interdisciplinary Care by David Wayne Ronald Chubb, BDS This session addresses common clinical scenarios where orthodontic treatment intersects with oral surgery. Topics include the diagnosis and surgical management of impacted maxillary canines; current evidence guiding third molar management during orthodontic treatment; indications for orthognathic surgery, including the role of surgery-first approaches; and clinical considerations for orthodontic patients taking antiresorptive medications, particularly regarding medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Emphasis is placed on evidence-based decision-making. The Digital Workflow of Orthognathics: Integrating Surgery and Orthodontics by Sahar Mostafavi, DMD This session addresses the integration of digital technologies that have fundamentally transformed the management of orthodontic patients requiring orthognathic surgery and other surgical treatments. This session provides a comprehensive exploration of the fully digital treatment pathway from initial 3D diagnostic imaging and CBCT-based analysis through virtual surgical planning (VSP), digital appliance design, and interdisciplinary execution. Real-world case documentation will be used to illustrate how a cohesive digital ecosystem reduces error, shortens treatment timelines, and elevates the standard of care for complex dentofacial deformity patients. Mastering Anchorage: The 3-D Biomechanics of Cantilever Springs by Anchorage in the upper arch pose unique challenges due to anatomical differences compared to the lower arch. This underscores the vital role of the upper first molars in maintaining stable anchorage especially during distal canine translation as it requires stationary anchorage. This presentation will discuss the approach conceptually referred to as the ‘differential moment’ concept that has the potential to avoid pitfalls of traditional approaches. Conflict of Interest / Financial Disclosure: Pending Review Intended Audience: Orthodontists Due to character limits, speaker disclosures and learning objectives are available upon request or visible in the online .pdf registration booklet.
