Basics of Surgical Principles
April 7, 2023 - Senator Inn & Spa - 9am-4pm
The purpose of this course is to present contemporary protocols, techniques, and materials that can be utilized to improve clinical outcomes in periodontal surgery. A comparison of workflows for various procedures will be reviewed. The topics that will be discussed include guided bone regeneration, soft tissue augmentation, and implant placement for simple as well as complex cases.

Review and compare advancements in digital Implant dentistry to traditional analog techniques. Multiple workflows for treatment of simple, as well as complex, implant cases will be presented to illustrate the wide variety of treatment options that we have available to us.

Be presented advancements in bone grafting materials and techniques to highlight the use of resorbable membranes, various stabilization techniques, and the use of biologics to enhance the handling of our regenerative materials and ultimately improve predictability.

Review and compare advancements in soft tissue grafting protocols to various commercially available soft tissue alternatives currently on the market. Applicable techniques, handling advice, and case selection for the use of these soft tissue alternatives will be presented.

Matthew Fien, DDS
Dr. Fien graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2006. He then received his specialty training in periodontics from Nova Southeastern University and his diplomate status from the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry in 2009. He maintains a private practice in Fort Lauderdale, FL, with a special focus on hard and soft tissue regenerative and implant dentistry. Dr. Fien has been published in various well-respected dental journals and he is currently involved in a variety of ongoing clinical research projects. In 2017, Dr. Fien co-developed a series of hands-on guided bone regeneration and soft tissue management courses. He also enjoys lecturing at Nova Southeastern University and other post graduate dental programs throughout the US and abroad and serves as a key opinion leader and consultant for several industry leaders. Israel Puterman, DMD, MSD
Dr. Puterman originally from Montreal, Canada, received his DMD from Boston University. He then attended Loma Linda University, where he received two residency certificates over five years: one in implant dentistry and one in periodontics, as well as a master of science degree. As part of his dual residency training, he obtained expertise in the surgical, prosthetic and laboratory phases of implant cases, and he has limited his private practice in the Washington, DC area to the surgical fields of implant dentistry, bone and soft tissue regeneration and periodontics. Dr. Puterman is a published author in various journals, He lectures nationally on topics related to implant esthetics, the surgical side of digital dentistry, ridge augmentation, complex treatment planning, and the use of 3D microscopy in clinical practice. Virtual Treatment Planning Session: 2 CEs
